States across America have drafted their own plans for the cultivation of industrial hemp, and the federal government has slowly approved of more and more of these over time.
Most recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture approved Minnesota’s hemp plan on Tuesday. The move would bring Minnesota’s enforcement into line with federal enforcement measures and may help avoid potential jurisdictional disputes and other problems.
KEYC 12 Mankato claims “there are more than 8,000 acres and 4 million indoor square feet of registered hemp growing in Minnesota,” which shows the potential for the industry in the North Star State.
Florida, Georgia, Kansas and Massachusetts are states that previously received federal approval for their specific growing plans.
Considering industrial hemp was legalized in 2018, it may strike some as surprising that states need to receive further affirmation from the USDA to start planting.
Of course, some planters already began to harvest the crop used for CBD across the U.S. without the USDA in 2019, as is consonant with other bottom-up changes in cannabis legalization.
According to KEYC 12 Mankato, the hemp program in Minnesota was passed through the state legislature in May as part of the farming omnibus, which also featured relief for farmers in the state affected by the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.
The USDA’s green-light represents a major advance for Minnesota, and could foretell major growth in the state’s hemp and CBD industries.
Even with hopeful signs like this one, it can be hard to know where to buy reliable, high-quality CBD products.
