The non-psychoactive hemp extract CBD has grown in popularity to the point where many seem to find it everywhere they look.
Celebrities like Willie Nelson, Martha Stewart and even Snoop Dogg have been outspoken in their support for CBD products in the past, but this trend has exploded with the industry generally after the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp in December.
Now, one of the biggest pop culture figures in the world, Kim Kardashian, has entered the fray in support of CBD.
Kardashian is already a mother of three, and with her newest child on the way through a surrogate, she told E! News that, “This year, because I am freaking out so much, I just want a zen-like CBD-themed baby shower.” [1]
Kim’s three children so far are North, Saint and Chicago West, all of whom she had with husband Kanye West, for those not in the know.
She told E! News that since the family is using a surrogate this time around, the baby shower is mostly to offer a relaxing atmosphere before the newborn comes home and as a way to remind the kids that they’ve got a new brother coming their way soon. [1]
Kardashian said she’s looking for massages and CBD crystals as part of the baby shower, though she didn’t let on which cannabidiol brands she’s looking to use.
CBD-infused tea may also play a role in the mature, relaxing baby shower Kim is aiming to host. It’s unclear whether she will livestream the event, as she did before the birth of Chicago West last year. [1]
For an influencer of her reach, Kardashian’s choice of CBD products and promotion thereof is sure to give any brand she eyes a sizable boost in sales and attention. This effect has been seen at different levels among other celebs, but there’s hardly a bigger name than Kim’s to spread industry awareness.
While clues are scarce, some may come from her sister Kourtney Kardashian’s support for CBD online. Kourtney’s site, Poosh, proclaims support for CBD gummies from Naturefine. The website defends the benefits of the hemp compound: “CBD is an anti-inflammatory that has been known to reduce anxiety and stress.” [2]
Kim Kardashian is an influencer for KKW beauty products, her own line of products, including lotions, makeups and other supplies but also sunglasses and accessories. [1]
Still, there’s no inkling that KKW will start selling its own CBD product lines, though they would be sure to drive attention and demand among Kardashian fans and hemp fans alike.
