This week on the Nothing But Hemp blog, we’ve been highlighting the benefits of CBD as always, with an eye towards one of the most celebrated national holidays coming up.

The long Independence Day weekend is a chance for many to reunite with friends and family and participate in tons of summer activities, all of which can be a real blast — especially fireworks — but which may come with downsides as well.

Here are some ways you and your loved ones can use hemp and CBD to make life easier this 4th of July:

Hangover home remedies

If you happen to party a bit too hard this 4th of July, or forget to drink enough water during the festivities, CBD may be an option for that thudding in your cranium the next day.

CBD oil is a relatively new route to wellness, and while testimonials detailing positive customer experiences crowd online review and product sites, the science proving its effects still needs time to develop.

Still, some clinical and other studies have asserted that CBD oil can have anti-inflammatory effects and some potential for pain relief.

While no literature reviews or studies claim outright that CBD is a proven pain killer or headache cure, many people like to turn to it for their pounding post-party headache instead of over-the-counter NSAID pain relievers that come with a litany of side effects.

Pet care possibilities

With widespread reporting of increases in fireworks being launched all across the U.S., concerns over pet anxiety are all the more pressing this year.

Since hemp was legalized in 2018, many pet owners have tried CBD to ease their pets’ anxiety problems when it comes to fireworks and other triggers.

“[CBD] can be used in the treatment of certain types of seizures, to control pain, inflammation, nausea, vomiting, to stimulate appetite and to manage anxiety,” Dr. Ibrahim Shokry, a veterinarian with the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, told the Huffington Post. “All these uses are based on experiences, but controlled clinical studies are needed in dogs and cats to establish efficacy and safety.”

Ease the sunburn?

The same anti-inflammatory effects that make CBD a potential option for hangovers are the very same which may make it useful in soothing skin after too much sun.

No one likes the sting and heated skin from a bad burn after a hot day, but some have found relief in the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD.

In a recent story published in Vice, Rajul Punjabi interviewed UCLA Dermatologist Joyce Fox. “More research needs to be done but it is promising,” Fox said. “There have been [CBD products] that are recommended—not specifically necessarily for sunburn—but just as an anti-inflammatory.”
