Could CBD help pets face anxiety on Independence Day?

This year, the Fourth of July may be a perfect time to try CBD oil for your pet.

Thousands of people have turned to CBD for their pet needs, as they claim the compound helps their dogs especially to relax and face pain and arthritis symptoms. With widespread reporting of increases in fireworks being launched all across the U.S., concerns over pet anxiety are all the more pressing this year.

New brands and products, including biscuits and oil concentrates, have been invented explicitly for pets amid the flurry of new CBD developments since the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and its CBD derivatives in 2018.

Reporting shows that expert veterinarians have corroborated that preliminary studies show what many pet owners have already learned: plenty of pet owners have seen impressive results after getting their dogs on a regimen of CBD.

“[CBD] can be used in the treatment of certain types of seizures, to control pain, inflammation, nausea, vomiting, to stimulate appetite and to manage anxiety,” Dr. Ibrahim Shokry, a veterinarian with the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, told the Huffington Post. “All these uses are based on experiences, but controlled clinical studies are needed in dogs and cats to establish efficacy and safety.”

Since 2014, veterinary studies into CBD’s positive effects on animals have proceeded in the limited legal space offered for research purposes. These included two studies by Dr. Stephanie McGrath into CBD as a treatment for dogs’ osteoarthritis and epilepsy.

While results from those studies have yet to be published, many veterinarians are excited to enter this area of science, and their way has been made even easier since hemp was legalized.

Hopefully the further scientific examination of hemp and CBD’s uses will show more and more clearly its promise for pet anxiety that so many find so oppressive around fireworks season.

Despite its lack of definitive scientific proof for the multiple uses in pets, pet owners have reported their great results in consumer testimonials and comments. For some pets, CBD is soothing to their ailments, especially anxiety.

Pet owners are also disproportionately represented among users of CBD, according to some studies. This makes sense based on the compound’s benefits on two- and four-legged users alike!
