Hemp fashion trends are on the horizon

The uses of hemp can be traced back through American and world history for centuries.

After its pedigree of use in shipbuilding and rope manufacture, it can be surprising to see it return in futuristic uses like cutting edge oils, extracts and even brand new fashion lines. Still, that’s just what hemp fans will see this spring.

According to reporting in Forbes, multiple fashion brands plan to release hemp-centered, sustainable lines of clothing in the spring 2020 season.

The trend is emerging particularly in Kentucky, where cultivation of the industrial hemp crop took off in 2019, with events like Future of Fashion and May Bloom. [1]

The Future of Fashion 2020 event will feature 60% hemp sustainable fashion submissions from up to 10 local Kentucky designers, Forbes reported. [1]

“Pure hemp was still a little rough, so I went for a 55/45 hemp-silk blend,” designer Benedict Bidley told Forbes. “It was really beautiful, and so elegant; my customer was so happy, so I got more samples, and have presented it to clients as the eco-friendly option ever since.” [1]

The collections shown at the events will likely stray into the avant garde, but hemp is bound to proliferate into more mainstream clothing options as well in months to come.

Kentucky’s own Mitch McConnell was a driver of the 2018 Farm Bill that legalized industrial hemp, so it makes sense the fashion trends explained in Forbes should emerge from the Bluegrass State. [1]

In fact, other beauty products beyond fashion items and high-end clothing have come into the consumer market since industrial hemp came back into legal use at the end of 2018.

Companies that create and retail beauty products using cannabidiol, or CBD, have even broken into award-winning territory and even high end and established beauty brands have shown interest. [2]

CBD is a non-psychoactive relative of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. It has gained wild popularity as people use it for their anxiety, chronic pain, inflammation, and other everyday issues.

And while CBD and hemp beauty products are exciting to see, some seem a bit sillier than others. That’s why it’s hard to know which brands and products to trust.

Luckily, the team at Nothing But Hemp have years in the CBD and hemp industry, and offer a plethora of CBD oils and beauty products for interested fanatics and newcomers alike.
