All across the U.S., next weekend will be full of barbecues, lakeside relaxing, cold beer and loud, bright fireworks that terrify our dogs.
Canine companions would probably be just as patriotic as the next person, but as things stand they can’t quite figure out such high-level concepts and mostly Independence Day means heightened anxiety, which in some cases leads to dramatic scenes if dogs run away or tear up furniture and other stuff around the house. Luckily, CBD may come in handy this year.
In this year’s burst of interest in all manner of CBD products which derive from non-psychoactive compounds within cannabis, dogs and other pets are far from neglected.
Brands and products, including biscuits and oil concentrates, have been invented explicitly for pets amid the flurry of new CBD developments since the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and its CBD derivatives last year.
Reporting shows that expert veterinarians have corroborated that preliminary studies show what many pet owners have already learned: plenty of pet owners have seen impressive results after getting their dogs on a regimen of CBD.
Huffington Post recently featured an article with interviews of expert vets, and their contributions are worth considering. They point out that the benefits for pets aren’t just hype. There really is promise in CBD for dogs and cats. [1]
“The results seem to support anecdotal reports of CBD oil’s benefits for pain and anxiety,” Award-winning Member of the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association Dr. Adam Christman told Huffington Post. [1]
He wasn’t alone.
“It can be used in the treatment of certain types of seizures, to control pain, inflammation, nausea, vomiting, to stimulate appetite and to manage anxiety,” Dr. Ibrahim Shokry, a veterinarian with the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, told HuffPo. “All these uses are based on experiences, but controlled clinical studies are needed in dogs and cats to establish efficacy and safety.” [1]
The story does showcase that experts aren’t sure how traditional pet medications interact with newer CBD options. Many testimonials have reported that pets are happy with CBD alone, but these findings are less than scientifically conclusive and need further study.

Still, plenty of pet owners have found the anxiety easing effects of CBD indispensable, especially for skittish pets.
Many CBD experts familiar with pet use of cannabis advise that pet owners start with low doses and then gradual increase the amount until the results start to show. It can take some time for the cannabidiol to build in the pets system before positive results start to be felt by the pets.
