The hemp with no name: Clint Eastwood sues CBD companies

One of the most prolific actors in Hollywood is sparring with figures in the hemp community.

Clint Eastwood, star of Spaghetti-Westerns like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly among others and a director in his own right, claims in a recent lawsuit that his legendary stature and persona is being abused and manipulated by figures in the hemp and CBD industry.

According to the International Business Times, Eastwood seeks millions in his suit against For Our Vets, LLC, Greendios and Sera Labs, Inc.

These brands allegedly led their customers to believe the “Gran Torino” actor endorsed their products through advertisements and articles, according to the IBT.

Contrary to the misinformation, Dirty Harry doesn’t “do” cannabis.

“My client is not one to sit idly by as the defendants use his good name to dupe customers into purchasing products with which he has no affiliation," Eastwood's lawyer Jordan Susman said in a statement, according to Reuters.

The lawsuits made clear that Eastwood’s reputation is not simply an act and, although he is 90 years old, the actor still means business.

"Like many of his most famous characters, Mr Eastwood is not afraid to confront wrongdoing and hold accountable those that try to illegally profit off his name or likeness," the suit says, the IBT says.

Reuters says the articles and ads were meant to manipulate search results online to attach the companies’ products with the high-level name recognition of Clint Eastwood, who has forged ahead in Hollywood and politics to raise himself to become a household name.

According to Reuters report on the new lawsuit, Eastwood has won Oscars throughout his career for his directing credits on “Unforgiven” and “Million Dollar Baby.”
