Could the Olympics feature CBD use by athletes this year?

CBD has become the talk of elite athletics circles, from popular professional leagues in America even to the laurel-crowned realm of the Olympics.

New reports have connected the dots to point out that the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan may very well include athletes who use CBD products to ease their workouts, recoveries and improve performance overall.

More than that, it may just be above board before the festivities and competitions begin.

According to the Chicago Tribune, there is a strong case to be made that CBD will be the newest trend breaking across all the competitive fields of the 2020 games. [1]

The Tribune reports the World Anti-Doping Agency removed CBD from its list of prohibited substances in 2018. [1]

Athletes across American sports are pushing for CBD acceptance as more participants have moved to use the cannabis compound in their routines.

People love to use CBD for their chronic pain, inflammation and other uses that make the compound a favorite for athletes. Thought the science is young and developing, testimonials can hardly point one wrong when it comes to leading brands and products.

The London Free Press reports that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and the WADA ban both prohibit marijuana, but CBD importantly doesn’t get its users high. [2]

“Cannabis could make runners feel less stressed, which could make you perform better, but it’s hard to really separate it along those lines from beer,” Olympic Runner John Halvorsen, who broke Canada’s speed record and qualified for the Olympics in 1988, told the LFP.

“To me, cannabis seems a lot less damaging than alcohol and I think it’s only a matter of time before the World Anti-Doping Agency changes its laws.” [2]

As the news cycle continues to heat up around the 2020 Summer Olympics, the dark horse competitor is surely the CBD industry.
